UNLOCK THEIR FUTURE: A SKILLS-BASED APPROACH TO TEACHING AND LEARNING ENGLISH
Edited by
VINEY KIRPAL ( Former Professor of English, IIT Bombay)
&
Shridhar b. Gokhale  ( Former Professor of English, Pune University)

English in India is an important subject today. It is also a difficult subject to teach and learn. Large heterogeneous classes, anachronistic syllabi, boring textbooks boringly taught and purposeless examinations de-motivate students from taking English seriously at college.

In 21st century India, it is important for professionals to be adept at writing, speaking and understanding English because they have to communicate well with native English- speaking clients. Our graduates need to be trained in these linguistic competencies while yet in college.

Unlock their Future: A Skills-based Approach to Teaching and Learning English offers some practical methods and strategies for preparing students from the metros as well as the small towns in English language skills required in their professional lives.

The authors sincerely hope that this book will bring freedom to many English-shy students and corporate executives and make this a standard for teachers and trainers of English language in India.

British Library, Pune and Association of British Scholars, Pune chapter have organised the workshop by Mr Shashank Verma. Many students aspire to study abroad. However, they are not sure about the whole application process. From trying to understand the basic entry requirement to giving their exams (SAT/GRE/GMAT) to writing Statement of Purpose can be quite a daunting task. This workshop is designed to give an overall view of the whole application process and intends to take the mystery out of the whole application process. Once you know what to expect, where to get the information and how to approach the applications, the whole process becomes much easier to understand. Getting the application right is a 2-3 years of dedicated planning, strategizing & hard work to build your application and improve your chance of getting into your university of choice. By attending this training workshop, one will surely be on the path to understand, what admission committee is looking for and more importantly how do you distinguish yourself from the others. This workshop is a precursor to the Education UK fair to be hosted on 10 February, 2011 at Le Meridien, Pune 411001
